Two very bad things happened around the 1997 NCAA Pix Tournament.

First, the winner that year failed to return the original Suds Mug, which at the time was only 2 years old, at the end of the next year’s tournament. That meant we had to replace the trophy in only the third year of the tournament. For this reason, as tournament director, I decided that we would never refer to the winner’s actual name. Rather, he would hereafter be referred to simply as “the Suds Mug thief.” Obviously, he was not invited to return to the tournament again.

Second, my hard drive failed that year, thus losing the tournament results, so I don’t know who finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. Therefore, while there was a tournament this year, we have no record of the tournament, so there are no results on this page. I have since learned to have the tournament results backed up on a secondary hard drive so that this can’t happen again.
