*This web page is a work in progress.*

This is a list of my Meta Quest game and app collection as of 5/16/24, currently at 100 unique titles. Not all of these titles are permanent additions to my collection. I subscribe to Meta Quest+, which provides two new titles every month, along with a small collection of "rotating" titles that come and go each month. I have access to these titles as long as I maintain my subscription, which I maintain on a yearly basis, which costs $60/year. As of right now, I do believe this subscription is worth the money but that may change in the future based on the titles they continue to add to the collection. Once I stop the subscription, I no longer have access to these titles.

I currently own a Meta Quest 2. I will eventually upgrade this but this model adequately satisfies my current needs, so I see no reason to spend money on an upgrade at the moment. Eventually, I will add a grade to each title and include a brief description of the game and my thoughts on it. I will also try to keep an updated "top 5" list of apps, based on current usage. Again, I hope to eventually implement a comment section on this page so that you might provide your thoughts and questions on these games, along with your experience with each and, perhaps, your suggestions on games I should try.

REVIEWED APPS
Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs#
(Grade: C+) YouTube video
If you like Angry Birds, there is no reason why you wouldn't like Angry Birds in the 3D world. It's great to be able to move around in a 3D environment to improve your angle for a particular shot. Unfortunately, you can only move around in "segments," so there is not complete freedom of movement, which dampens what could be an amazing added element. Otherwise, it's Angry Birds.

Bigscreen Beta (Grade: B) YouTube video
With this app, you can watch movies and TV shows on a massive screen, including the ability to upload your own movies! You can also do this with another person in "multiplayer mode" but you must both have the same service or movie available to do so, which isn't as simple as it sounds. Still, this is an under-appreciated feature of VR headsets. With this app, it is like watching movies and shows on a 100" screen in a variety of environments, something that few of us can otherwise afford to do. There are also public viewing rooms but I have no interest in trying to watch a video with obnoxious children screaming in the same room.

Black Hole Pool (Grade: D) YouTube video
Perhaps I am an idiot (those of you who know me are nodding your head), but I can't get this to work properly. This is the only VR title I own like this, so I don't understand why I am having so many problems with it. I was so looking forward to playing pool in VR, especially if I could invite others to play online. However, until I can get this to work properly, I am giving it a "D" for the difficulty I am having. Once I get this figured out, I will try to provide a more objective grad.

Cubism (Grade: B) YouTube video
This is a puzzle game that challenges you to complete 3D forms. I'm not very good at things like this but my wife is, so I mostly got this for her. I have played it once and did enjoy it, short of my personal lack of ability. My wife says it is a pretty good puzzle game but she is hopelessly addicted to Puzzling Places, so she rarely plays this. Nevertheless, this is a very good puzzle game if you enjoy such things.

Earthquest (Grade: B-) YouTube video
This app allows you to explore practically any place in the world, and do so with other people. Personally, I prefer Wander, which utilizes Google Maps, because I feel the graphics are much cleaner. However, there are areas you can't see in Wander (like my old house in Indiana), so I find this app offers more of the world. It is especially good at exploring cities from a "drone level" view, so beautiful large cities like Paris and New York are especially nice. However, when you drill down to street level graphics, IF you can drill down to this level in the area you are searching, the details are lost, so the experience is not as impressive as Wander. Still, this is a fun app that allows you to explore the world, by yourself or with friends and family.

Eleven Table Tennis (Grade: A+) YouTube video
This is the first sports app I explored, and I was so excited by the possibility that I talked a friend into getting a VR headset just so that we could play this game. When I practiced by myself, something this game offers a variety of ways to accomplish, I was impressed by the physics of the game and how well it recreated the ping pong experience. I hoped that the multiplayer mode would be able to keep up with the speed of the game and not be buried in problems with lag. However, I have been astounded with how well this app can recreate an actual ping pong experience while playing with people hundreds (and potentially thousands) of miles away! As long as both of you have a decent internet connection and router, you can enjoy a game of ping pong that can keep up with almost all skill levels. I now play this with my friend once a week and, like Golf+, it not only allows us to play a fun, realistic game together, it allows us to interact socially while doing so. This drastically reduces the distance between family and friends and is another app that, if you really like ping pong, is almost justification on its own to buy a VR headset. This is the best table tennis simulation available on the Meta Quest. Like Golf+, I can't say it is exactly the same as an actual game of ping pong, the simulation is good enough that you will have trouble distinguishing between this and reality. Another great feature that I do not use is the ability to go online and find fellow Eleven Table Tennis players to play with, along with a skill rating system!

Golf 5 eClub (Grade: C-) YouTube video
This is the first golf game I tried and, while I feel it has slightly more realistic graphics than Golf+ (reviewed below), it offered less courses for the money, so I invested in Golf+. Since then, the number of courses available for Golf+ exploded, while still only a few are available for this golf game, not to mention that they utilize a subscription model, something I almost always avoid. Also, the last time I tried it, it was all but unplayable due to serious lags and continual crashes. While these problems could be the fault of my system or internet connection (although I can't understand why this doesn't happen with other games that seem to work fine), I no longer play this game because Golf+ offers me a more rich and varied experience.

GOLF+ (Grade: A+) YouTube video
I have always wanted a home golf simulator; the kind where you hit a real golf ball with a real golf club into a projection screen that displays a simulated golf course, with the ball "landing" where you would be on that simulated golf course based on how you actually hit the ball. To be able to play golf anytime I wanted on any course I wanted, regardless of the season or weather, was my ultimate dream. I knew I could never afford to play as much golf as I needed to play in order to avoid being frustrated by my ability, so I wanted to pay for all my golf at once and never pay to play again. Unfortunately, back when I originally researched this, the cost hovered around $13,000! Instead, I just stopped playing golf (and being frustrated by golf based on my skill set). Fast forward to 2022, when I decided to lose weight by exercising using a Meta Quest VR headset. Once I started actually losing the weight, I felt justified in the cost of the VR headset, so I started looking around for other "fun" games to play. That's when I discovered VR golf. From the first time I played golf in the VR world, I knew I had found what I had been looking for
except it only cost me $30 for the app, and I could experience the virtual golf course in 360º, instead of just one screen in front of me. I was immediately addicted, and I quickly found a couple of friends to play along. The amazing part is that all three of us are in different parts of the country. I am in Florida, while Murv is in Nevada and Jerry is in Ohio, and it is like we are all playing on the same course, at the same time, complete with sarcastic remarks and plenty of laughter. We have now been playing regular matches for over 5 months (as of May, 2024), and it is something I look forward to every week. I have purchased all of the available courses that have been added (a total of 20 at the time of this review), and I have found it to be one of the most challenging and enjoyable games I have ever played. If you look at the menu above, you can see links to the weekly competitions we have and our scores. I can't tell you it is just like real golf because it is not. However, it is the closest simulation I have found. If you like golf, I believe you will love this game. In my opinion, even though I purchased my VR headset for a completely different reason, this game alone justifies buying a VR headset on its own! If you know me or Murv or Jerry, and have a VR headset, let us know so you can join our group.

PowerBeatsVR (Grade: A+) YouTube video
What can I say about an app that was the critical element for allowing me to lose all the extra weight I had been carrying around for decades? I LOVE this app! It combines exercise with the potential of adding a lot of great music that you love. The initial app includes a limited number of mostly electronic music with which you exercise "to the beat." However, through an open source website, you can adapt the huge collection of BeatSaber files to PowerBeatsVR format, so this allows you to find scores of files that meet your personal musical taste. I have over 100 songs that I exercise to! Since you are exercising to the beat of the music, it is similar to BeatSaber, but it involves a lot more activity that provides good exercise to your arms and legs, which is why I chose this app over BeatSaber. You use your arms to "punch" targets and "hold" laser beams. You use your legs to move to each target, as well as avoiding walls that reduce your point value. What was significant for me is that it can track the calories you burn, and it was this feature that quickly motivated me to exercise longer as I began to lose weight. Initially, I struggled to exercise for a half hour but over the course of a few months, I was up to exercising for 90 minutes per session, four times per week. Through this regiment, and eventually some changes to my diet, I was able to lose 67 pounds! I also learned that I enjoyed an element to the game I can only describe as "dancing," which I have never liked doing in public. However, I can do this in private and enjoy the activity while burning calories. If you are looking for what I feel is the best exercise app available on the Quest VR system, choose PowerBeatsVR!

Puzzling Places (Grade: A-) YouTube video
I purchased this game for my wife, as she loves to put puzzles together. This app offers a unique experience because all of these puzzles are 3D puzzles, so it creates more of a challenge to find the correct way to put the pieces together, as you move the puzzle around in space. You can also change the number of pieces for each puzzle to change the difficulty of the puzzle. Equally amazing is that, once the puzzle is complete, you can view the 3D puzzle in different angles and completely explore what you have created. I am giving it an A- because there is a bit of a learning curve on manipulating and putting the pieces together but, once you understand it, the experience is extremely enjoyable!

Track Craft
(Grade: A+) YouTube video
When I was a young boy, I played with Hot Wheel tracks but mostly using Matchbox cars, as my father had started bringing me home Matchbox cars from the time I was about 5 years old. I had quite the collection of cars, and I could spend hours setting up tracks on which to "run" my cars. Imagine my excitement when I found that someone had created a virtual reality game that allows you to create tracks and run miniature cars on them. I had high hopes when I purchased the game at half price just before it was released on the regular Meta Quest store. I was not disappointed. First, I really enjoyed using the controllers to control my car around a large collection of tracks, with the goal of beating specific time goals, with each track getting progressively harder. Then, I found that you could race your vehicle with an inside view from the vehicle, and that added an entirely new level of enjoyment. Some tracks are easier to reach your goals watching your vehicle from the outside and others seem to be much easier from inside the vehicle. However, my favorite part is that you can create your own tracks and share them online so that others can run your tracks, and you can enjoy theirs! This takes me back to my childhood with the excitement of creating your own track and seeing how fast you can travel on them without crashing. I currently only have a Quest 2, so the mixed reality element, which is amazing, isn't that great of an experience but eventually, I will be upgrading to a Quest 3S, and I'm sure I will really enjoy racing around my house on the floors, walls and ceilings. Oh, did I forget to mention that gravity doesn't really apply with this app, and that makes it even more fun!

Walkabout Mini Golf (Grade: A+) YouTube video (YouTube series showing design details for each course)
As much as I enjoy "real" golf, I have always loved miniature golf. In fact, I was such a nerd as a teenager that I was briefly a member of the Amateur Putters Association (APA) that was sponsored by Putt Putt Golf and played in regional tournaments. Unfortunately (or likely
fortunately for my future social life), I was never good enough to join the ranks of the Professional Putters Association. While I preferred the more "realistic" Putt Putt courses at a younger age, I have developed a love for more "novelty" courses as I've aged. That's why I was so excited when I discovered Walkabout Mini Golf. With the initial courses created, Walkabout offered a truly wonderful miniature golf experience, especially in the simulation of putting on a course offering a variety of challenging obstacles and unique locations. I fell in love with the immersion that this app created with their initial courses but as they have added new courses, they continue to set the bar ever higher, focusing on incredible themes and amazing hole challenges. They are now up to a total of 27 courses, each with its own theme and two separate courses, easy and difficult (mostly split between "day" and "night"). If that wasn't enough, each "easy" course also allows you to go on a custom golf ball scavenger hunt that allows you to add different balls with which you can play. Finally, each "hard" course allows you to go on a "fox hunt" full of clues about the holes on the course which, if completed, offers you a unique putter with which you can play. Those final two features are so popular that people buy this game to play those features alone, without the miniature golf part of the game! This is a wonderful game to play by yourself or with others. I'm hoping to eventually find a regular partner to share this game with, so if you play this game, let me know.

YouTube VR (Grade: B+)
This is a great app to watch 180º and 360º videos, which is a very immersive way to experience videos. Some of these types of videos I've seen in this app are amazing. Others, not so much, so it is a mixed bag. Add to this the ability to simply watch your YouTube feed on a large screen, and this app provides a lot of value for a
free app.
